The Homestead is the original homesite of Wildcatter Ranch. This rustic two-bedroom home sits on its own half-acre lot next to the horse pasture and activities barn, with two full-size bedrooms, one shared bathroom, a cozy living room, full kitchen, dining area, and front and back porches.
And then there are the neighbors. Edna and Willie Nelson, our two mini ponies, call the Homestead home, while full-size horses regularly stay here when they need a little extra TLC. Step outside and you never quite know who you’ll see hanging around. It’s a comfortable, private stay with a whole lot of authentic Texas character.
"We stayed at 'The Homestead' which is one of the private homes on the ranch. It was western outfitted, aged with beauty and felt like home. It was clean, the kitchen and bathroom had all the needed essentials and it was fenced in. We brought our own groceries and were able to cook meals in their full kitchen. It's also located right next to where they have horses and miniature ponies, so you could walk right up to them, pet them and feed them. Another huge plus for us was the stargazing.. The house is far enough into the ranch that you're away from everyone and it's not polluted with light. A true opportunity to soak in yet another thing the ranch has to offer."
You're coming to a ranch. Here's what that actually means.
Wildcatter Ranch and Resort is a very large property. You will need a car to enjoy it. The horse barn, where most activities take place, is in the valley, while the Steakhouse and Lodging are up on the mountaintop. The distance is not walkable.
Breakfast and Dinner are served daily, but Wildcatter Steakhouse is not open for lunch outside of Boxed Lunches, which you can order at check-in!
You will likely want to enjoy the small town of Graham, TX (15 minutes away) for lunch and shopping for antiques and local goods. Mineral Wells and Possum Kingdom Lake are also nearby and great places to shop, eat, and find some fun activities.
Summer heat can restrict our summer activities to the morning only.
Wildlife and insects exist. We are a ranch and you will encounter wildlife while here! We do our best to keep them all outside, but they do sneak inside sometimes!
Roughly August through November is CRICKET SEASON, and you will encounter crickets (bugs) in the buildings, rooms, and on the property.
Wildcatter is more than a hotel with a full-service, open 7 days a week Steakhouse, gift shop, horse herd, and ranch activities, with additional amenities listed above. We fall in the “boutique resort” category. We do not offer room service, laundry service (for your personal clothes), or other amenities typically associated with a full-scale resort. We are a bit in between. So, come to relax and enjoy the best of Texas!
